Here is why more and more Swedes move to Hungary!
Despite the extremely high standard of living and outstanding economic development in Sweden, many locals decide to leave their homeland and settle down in another country. Many Swedish people choose Hungary as their new place of residence. Here is the reason why!
Sweden is the 4th most competitive country in the world. The Scandinavian country ranks exceptionally high in quality of life, health, education, protection of civil liberties, economic competitiveness, income equality, gender equality, prosperity, and human development – reported by Wikipedia.
Even though the country’s population shows steady growth, there is one specific reason why more and more Swedes decide to leave their homeland and settle down somewhere else. The reason for this is the mass migration that has completely transformed Swedish society in recent years.
That is the reason why many Swedish people choose Hungary as their new place of residence.
As the Hungarian news portal Híradó reports, during the last decade more than 400,000 people arrived in Sweden which originally has a population of ten million. As a result, most districts in Malmö already have a high number of immigrants, and crime statistics have been dramatically deteriorating. According to the Swedish Crime Prevention Council, Sweden already had the highest number of shootings in 2019 and a record number of homicides in 2020. The situation is becoming increasingly difficult for the Swedish population to bear.
As an example, we can learn about the case of a Swedish family who moved to Hungary in 2018 for the safety of their children. The Swedish couple decided to do so after 5-6 years of planning. The family used to live in a good region of Central Sweden. However, after a tragic incident when one of their friends was killed, they realized that their homeland was no longer the same where they grew up. That was the turning point when they decided to move to Hungary and start a new life in Budapest. The Swedish couple works as lawyers and lives in the Hungarian capital with their two children.
As they say, they are extremely satisfied that they have chosen Hungary as their new place of residence.
Apart from Swedes, in the past few years, more and more German families move to Hungary because it is safer. They interviewed locals revealed that they were living in constant fear in their home country. That is why they decided to choose Hungary as their new place of residence. As we previously reported, the majority of immigrants moving to Hungary are Ukrainian, Romanian, German, and Serbian citizens.
Besides being among the TOP20 most peaceful countries in the world, Hungary may also attract foreigners for its beautiful wine regions. As we previously reported, this was the primary motivation of a Swedish brother and sister who started to produce wine in the beautiful region of Badacsony.

They are welcome here but remember why they came here.
In Hungary do as Hungarians do.
Of course, the Swedish government is going to deny this as they prefer putting their heads in the ground and ignoring the problem instead of doing anything. In fact, they are going to keep insisting that Hungary is racist while ignoring the gong show that is going on in Sweden.
Please do not take this comment as anti-immigration as I come from a country where we have a high intake of new immigrants, BUT we simply do not allow anyone to come in as we have a strong border security policy. On the other hand, the Swedish government’s approach is accepting everyone without doing any checks. Thus, it is no wonder that many Swedes are now leaving the insecurity of their homeland.
Remember when 5 years ago Trump mentioned the crime in Sweden and they all went nuts – most of the EU is nothing like it used to be 40 years ago
Colorado was for a long time a great frontier state with hard-working, patriotic population. Crime was not a problem and the air was pristine. Schools were great educators and the children were safe in schools. A wonderful place to live.
At first just a few “refugees” came from New York because they had enough of high crime, wasteful government and floods of illegal immigrants, most of them welfare.
A few of these “refugees” were fine and everyone was happy. The problem started when too many of these “refugees” came, with their anti-social, liberal ideas. Soon followed by the illegal immigrants, high crime, pollution and big government.
How many of these “refugees” is too many?
Istvan and The Realist – concur.
I remain SCARED – the country that I was born in – what I witnessed through basically what The Realist comments – the acceptance of Migrants – without “checks & balances” – does “haunt” me.
I witnessed ghettos created – the absolute transformation of Districts, there history and culture that established them.
The Realist comments that his opinion is not that he is against or anti-immigration which is my likewise position but it must be Vetted and Controlled – with deepness of ticks and crosses attached to the process of immigration.
We respect the Laws of Hungary and this acceptance was in the examination and exercise we undertook in our decision to take up Residency – in this country – Hungary – as Istvan comments – to live and do – the Hungarian way.
I personally find it irksome to me – when I visit my country of birth, the city and districts of my birth – to not in – numerous cases recognise them, seeing them ghettos or totally transformed into communities that Migrants have taken over.
The future of Hungary – the coming out of these darkened days, the ongoing struggle and challenge we are facing through the PRESENCE of this novel Coronavirus – the answer is NOT to relax our Immigration/Migration Policy.
I have extreme confidence that “the strong man” of European Politics – our Prime Minister – Victor Orban and the Fidesz Party – will NOT “roll over” relax the present Laws of Immigration/Migration.
If they did – we are seeing the Polish “challenge” the ongoing build up at the barbed wire boarder fences – continuing in droves of people of all ages – numbers wishing to flee there country.
Europe – this Polish situation – it will grow throughout Europe and if we in Hungary “roll over” in any form of relaxing our Immigration/Migration Laws – for us in Hungary it could be Perilous and for Europe same that could be – Cataclysmic.
Tenetes Traditiones – tanslated meaning :
“Hold Fast to Traditions.” – Hungary we Must.
It is nothing to do with immigration. The average Personal Rate of Income Tax in Sweden is 52.9%. In Hungary there is the flat rate of 15%. If you can work from home or are are retired and have taxable income then it makes financial sense to get residency in Hungary and thus pay income tax to Hungary rather than Sweden. In fact recipients of just the Swedish State Pension can live very handsomely in Hungary on their monthly pension. The Swedes that I know who live in Budapest spend just over 6 months here (for tax reasons) and 6 months of the year back in Sweden.
@István – wise words so stop being so American and lighten up a bit, be more like us Hungarians, easy going.
Thank you for your post Norbert.
Kati, nem hiszem, hogy magyar vagy.
István, unlike you, I am Hungarian. I was born in Budapest in District 2. Some of my family’s work of art that they owned (tapestries) are hung in the National Museum. It is YOU who is not Hungarian, egy amerikai kutya vagy!
Dear Moderator, you did not post my response to “kati” written in Hungarian.
I realize that it is an English language post but I know of only two countries, Romania and Ukraine, where Hungarians are attacked for using the Hungarian language in public. Both of these countries got large Hungarian populations at the treaty of Trianon and these thieves try to hide their crime by pretending that their Hungarian speaking victims don’t exists.
I respect that most that comment on this list are not Hungarian speaking but there are circumstances when I feel the need to post in Hungarian to address someone who is insulting and who I believe falsely claims to be Hungarian. In those cases, it would be unfair to insist on using English on a forum that discusses Hungarian topics.
The English version of my Hungarian letter to “kati” that you did not post:
Kati, I don’t believe you. You are not Hungarian.
I admire that America and American people that took in 40 thousand Hungarian refugees after the Soviets crushed the Hungarian Uprising, the “Szabadságharc”,
I am not an American dog but a Hungarian-American who served Hungary and America with honor. But you are a Soros dog.
Dear István, we do not approve Hungarian comments because most of our readers do not understand them.
Mr. John Woods,
Istvan “poses” the DNH with a valid arguement.
Flexability – just not Black nor White appears lost in your SIMPLE explanation, as to why Istvans comments in Hungarian – DNH are not posting.
From a Legal perspective – a point of law, I could not find in fine print or “other” any notification on offical DNH letterhead that states or notify :
” to write a comment on an Article subject – please – we remind you – English is the only language we accept.”
To translate Hungarian to English – simple task for me hitting lower right corner of my lap top, then hit “translate to English” in menu option that appears on screen.
I speak nor write nor read Hungarian.
I contribute “for better or for worse” – to this forum DNH practically on a daily basics.
It ‘Feeds” me to a largish degree of what is happening in Hungary.
Linguistics – the study of a language and its struture – is a strong point of arguement that ISTVAN has in questioning DNH – why you have not posted comments in Hungarian that he has submitted.
Istvan – gave reason(s) why he posted comments and replied in comments – in Hungarian.
What if – Istvan in this case but any commentator – reading a comment – considered the comment posted in English but lodged written, in the readers opinion, by a Hungarian and replies to the article like :
“To readers I inform that comments made by Anna in English who I beleive is not English but Hungarian and that my responce therefor will be in Hungarian.”
Respectful and transparant disclosure of position and action undertaken by the Respondent/Commentator in this example – that I as a reader would not be inconvenienced , annoyed nor angered.
DNH – the forum of comments provided need to re-visited.
What are the laws under a “contract” arrangement, being DNH and the commentator – that govern who and in what language(s) commentators can respond in the facility provided in DNH news paper.
DNH – please remember the – SENSITIVITY – it is a POLITICAL Hot Topic – getting nearer the National April/May 2022 elections – that centers on and around – the Freedom – its Voice and Opinion of the Press in Hungary.
Flexability – not Black nor White and certainly not to be seen in acts of a veto position taken by DNH on subject/article and commentator(s).
Mr. Woods, thank you for your response.
Mr. Istvan,no matter who or what you claim to be, the way you think and write only makes you look like what you almost certainly are: an uneducated, inpolite, racist, homophobic, unhappy troll.
The rest does not matter, that you were around in 1956 or 1848 or 896, nobody really cares about it.
Norbert, thank you for your comments.
It is clear from your comments that you live between us and understand us. You comment on a variety of internal Hungarian issues and your comments indicate that you understand our problems.
God bless and welcome to Hungary.
István, the biggest problem we have in this forum is YOU:
Kati, I believe that I am a problem for your kind, the far-left, globalist, Soros agent Hungarian haters but not for everyone. There are some decent people here also.
National Elections April-May 2022 in Hungary.
It is evident reading the smallish number of commentators who use this forum provided by DNH the wide indifferance of Political Ideas and Philosophy they write, in reading there opinions.
Hungary the fast approaching National Elections post 1989, not since that year, the giving and receiving of our Right of Freedom and Liberty and Democracy – will be a “definer”, an Historical long term directional Political change, in Politics, and in Hungary.
Whoever is the VICTOR – of the up-coming National Elections in Hungary – what will be Left of Democracy ???
Opinion widely spoken throughout the Domocratic countries of the World – “pushed” along – post the “infamous” time in office of Donald J.Trump as the “humiliated” – 45th President of the United States of America, then the arrival post February 2020 of the – “greatest challenge to mankind of the past century”, opinion of outgoing Chancellor of Germany – Angela Merkel – of the Novel Coronavirus – that, we are witnessing Globally – strong and growing indications through Politics – Democracy is Constantly Reforming Itself.
Robust discussions and exchange of opinions, a vital part of the “ingreients” – the menu – of National Elections.
If there is not this exhibited and witnessed interest by Citizens – in the National Elections – there will not be change, if there is to be change and citizens determine that by the “power” of there vote, the outcome will be – a re-elected Government, that very much continues along the lines of its “creeds” – and leads a country – its Citizens – in the direction, that are the dominating – PLATFORM – of there Philosophy and Ideas – there Political agenda.
Massive – if they take it – REASPONSIBILITY – on the citizens at the upcoming National Elections – determining – the trend of what direction of Politics – the “creeds” of Political Party’s – they VOTE in Hungary.
Post 1989 = the “changed” continueing to change World – we Live – and we Hungary in that Change – National Elections April/May 2022 – does CHALLENGE us.
We live in Global times that could be termed – driven by a FLIPPANCY.
Citizens, populations are – being told by Governments over-all – that we have to -” Learn to Live with it” – this ongoing novel coronavirus – that sees ECONOMICS placed again of greater importance over HUMANITY.
Robert H. Jackson – a person of Historical Significance – gave the World – this advice in the late 1940’s :
“It is not the Function of a Government to keep the Citizens from Falling into Error.
It is the Function of the Citizens to keep the Government from Falling into Error.”
National Elections April/May 2022 – a “game changer” or a – SOLIDIFICATION – in the Political direction that Hungary – over the past 10 years has been taken ?
The power in the voting rights of Hungarians – will DETERMINE – this Historical outcome and set Hungary “on its way” for it’s IMMEDIATE future.
István, I agree that there are some decent people here. With the abuse that you frequently hurl at others, it is quite clear that you are not one of them.
Kati, I cannot make any more clear what I think of you and your kind.
István: my kind? A 36 year old mother of 2? What is objectionable about that? Or if you mean politics, I do not vote because I don’t like any of the parties and more generally, I am not really interested in politics. But rude, self opinionated people like you do make me irate.
Please stop directly attacking each other!
If you continue to conduct personal attacks on each other I will need to delete your comments.
Please refrain from language and being personal and continue your debate in a more sophisticated manner.
Thank you!
Mr. Licskay,
It is never my intention to engage in personal insults. Using this thread as example, I posted two comments, not directed at anyone personally. My first comment welcomed the Swedes moving to Hungary, adding a slight variation of well known saying “When in Rome, do as the Romans do”. My second post described what happened to Colorado when too many “refugees” from New York moved to Colorado and destroyed that wonderful state for the original inhabitants. Colorado and California are the two states that were my home for many years and it hurts that these wonderful states are being destroyed. Conservative opinions that I wanted to share with the list.
I don’t know but suspect why Kati found it necessary to attack me for m posts. She didn’t address the topic or my comments but foolishly tried to chastise me for “being so American”.
I already made up my mind to not acknowledge or respond to Mario’s posts and insults and will do likewise with this character Kati. I hope that this is satisfactory.
Have a nice day, István
Dear István,
Thank you for your understanding. Some comments should have been monitored more closely.
However, my previous statement applies to everyone.
Please everyone, be more considerate and try to conduct a debate of ideas instead of quarrelling and bickering. Thank you!
Why more and more Swedes move to Hungary! This is absolute nonsence and Fake News. I am Swedish and this subject has never been discussed in our media. Your country has a bad reputation because you’ve never condemned Putrin’s war or lived up to EU’s latest demands. We’ve got 17.000 people with Hungarian passports living in Sweden! I can imagine that some of them are worried and might want to return “home” , or in a worst scenario are scared and forced out of Sweden. Why? Because there are stupid people in all countries that triggers on riots mob attacks. We Swedes have nothing against common Hungarian that want to live and make a living in our country.
If you really want to know the truth about this Fake News search the Internet or contact and ask your Embassy of Hungary in Stockholm!
